Criuleni: Students of Cruglic Lyceum launch school radio

Students at Theoretical Lyceum in the village of Cruglic, located in the Criuleni district, have launched their own school radio station. They create and broadcast a variety of shows, audio spots, and podcasts focused on their institution's life. This initiative, titled "Radio Lyceum FM: The voice that unites us," was developed through the Upshift social program, which is supported by UNICEF and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova.
A mini-studio equipped with specialized equipment provides students with the opportunity to create their own audio content and share information about school activities with their classmates. This initiative is managed by a group of 10th-grade students who believe that their experience has united them and fostered their creativity.
Cosmina Pîurvu, one of the team members, explains that participating in the project provides them with new experiences every day and strengthens their team spirit. “We face challenges daily, and each new experience brings us closer together. It fosters a sense of unity and collaboration among all the students at our school, allowing our voices to be heard,” she said.
Another participant, Stanela Sara, who serves as a moderator at the radio station, notes that the shows are prepared according to a well-structured plan. Each day, they address different themes and select music to complement the program's script.
Cătălina Toderașcu emphasizes that the idea of the radio station captured the students' interest from the very beginning. "At first, we weren't sure what direction to take with the project, but then ideas started flowing, and this one excited us the most," she mentioned.
Sanda Danuța expressed pride in her colleagues for turning the initiative into a reality. She enjoys communicating on the microphone, interacting with other students, and participating in creating podcasts and other media. She also stated that participating in the UFormation program has helped the team learn journalism concepts and develop essential project coordination skills.
Teacher Natalia Stănilă, who has supported the group in implementing their idea, believes that the new generation has great potential and can execute impactful projects when given the opportunity. “This is a valuable opportunity for our Lyceum, as Cruglic Theoretical Lyceum has around 500 students who are present until 2 p.m. It’s effectively the size of an entire community,” she explained.
Stănilă emphasized that the radio serves as a quick source of information for the entire school community while also teaching young people responsibility. “We do not only aim to educate mathematicians, physicists, or chemists. Our primary goal is to raise citizens who are actively involved in civic life, and I believe that is our mission,” she said.
The radio station at Cruglic Lyceum operates thanks to funding from the Upshift program, which is dedicated to fostering social innovation among young people. This initiative aims to encourage civic participation, creativity, and the development of practical skills within school communities in the Republic of Moldova.
