Parliamentary dialogue partnership among EU candidate countries. Initiative launched in Copenhagen

Moldova, Ukraine, and Western Balkan countries formalize a parliamentary dialogue partnership. Leaders launched the initiative in Copenhagen during a broader meeting of EU candidate states.
Talks took place at the initiative of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Speaker, Ruslan Stefanchuk, on the sidelines of the Conference of Speakers of EU member and candidate state parliaments.
“It is symbolic that the first meeting in this format took place in Copenhagen, the city where the criteria guiding EU accession were set. These criteria remain key benchmarks for all countries seeking to join the European family,” said Moldova’s Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu.
He stressed that each candidate country follows its own pace, experience, and lessons on its European path.
“That is why we need to meet more often, share experience, coordinate positions, and identify mistakes we can avoid on our path to accession,” Igor Grosu added.
In Denmark, the Speaker held several meetings with European parliamentary counterparts to discuss Moldova’s European path, ongoing domestic efforts, and the political support needed to speed up reforms.
“It is important that our country’s position is clearly heard in all European forums. EU accession requires reforms at home and strong partnerships in Europe, including between parliaments,” he said.
He noted that participation in such platforms offers a chance to clearly present Moldova’s progress, ongoing reforms, and the importance of EU accession for both its citizens and Europe.
Igor Grosu visited Denmark on May 4 to 5. His agenda began with an event hosted by His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark.
