Maia Sandu: Russia “continues its series of crimes” after major attack on Ukraine

President Maia Sandu condemned the recent large-scale attack launched by Russia on Ukraine, emphasizing that Moscow shows no intention of ending the war. The President announced that Moldova's airspace was also violated during the nighttime bombings, which resulted in casualties and destruction in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.

Russia is not seeking to end the war; it continues its killing spree. The pressure on Russia must not let up.
The statements were made in light of a new wave of bombings launched by the Russian military on Ukraine on the night of May 14. According to Ukrainian authorities, one person was killed, and at least 36 others were injured due to drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding regions.
The Ukrainian Air Force issued a nationwide air alert after Russia deployed MiG-31 bombers, increasing the risk of ballistic missile attacks across the country. Loud explosions were reported in Kyiv as air defense systems attempted to intercept the drones and missiles fired by the Russian military.
Local authorities reported fires and destruction in several areas of the Ukrainian capital. In the Darnytskyi district, significant damage occurred following the collapse of structural elements of an apartment building. Authorities indicated that 18 apartments were destroyed, and 11 people were rescued from the rubble.
This night attack followed another day of intense bombings across Ukraine. On the afternoon of May 13, Russian forces launched at least 800 drones into various Ukrainian regions. According to Kyiv, these attacks resulted in at least 14 fatalities and more than 80 injuries, including children.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia might continue these attacks to overwhelm air defences and inflict "as much suffering and pain as possible."
On May 13, starting at 4:00 p.m., a drone flew over Moldovan airspace without authorisation for over 20 minutes, travelling from north to south. Authorities activated monitoring systems and implemented temporary measures to restrict air traffic in the northern part of the country.
