Access road to Ungheni's new Flower Bridge put out to tender
An important development for the "Flower Bridge" in Ungheni has emerged. The National Roads Administration (AND) has announced a tender for the construction of the access road leading to the bridge over the Prut River in Ungheni. Companies interested in participating in the project can submit their bids until September 8, 2026.
The project involves the construction of a 410-meter-long access road that will connect to the future bridge over the Prut River.
The work includes building embankments and the road structure, setting up a rainwater drainage system, and relocating and protecting existing engineering networks. Additionally, environmental protection measures will be implemented.
To enhance road safety, road markings will be applied, and traffic signs will be installed.
This contract is funded by the World Bank and co-financed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The estimated duration for completing the work is 12 months, and there will be a 365-day defect notification period.
The auction will be conducted through a national competitive procurement procedure, utilizing the "Request for Bids" method in accordance with the World Bank Procurement Regulations, revised edition of February 2025.
Construction companies can submit their bids until 10:00 a.m. on September 8, 2026. Bidding documents and requests for clarification can be obtained from the National Roads Administration.
A new bridge over the Prut River in Ungheni, the first to be built in nearly six decades, will span 261 meters and enhance the Republic of Moldova's connectivity with the European Union via the Unirii Highway (A8). This bridge is expected to significantly decrease travel time between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the travel time between Ungheni and Bucharest will be reduced by two to three hours, bringing the journey to the Romanian capital to approximately five hours.
The project is funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which has allocated nearly 35 million euros for its construction.
Furthermore, the authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova plan to construct four additional road bridges over the Prut River by 2030. These will connect: Stânca (Romania) to Costești (Republic of Moldova), Bumbata (Romania) to Leova (Republic of Moldova), Fălciu (Romania) to Leca (Republic of Moldova), and Răducăneni (Romania) to Bărboieni (Republic of Moldova).
