Moldova calls on 1991 generation for 35th independence anniversary
The Moldovan Parliament has launched a national campaign titled "I Am the Moldova 35 Generation," inviting citizens born in 1991—the year the country declared independence—to share their reflections on what their homeland means to them as it reaches its 35-year milestone.
MP Ludmila Adamciuc announced during a parliamentary session that selected contributors will be invited to a solemn legislative session on 26 August. The most inspiring message will be featured on the official website and social media platforms of the Parliament.
Honoring a generation raised alongside the state
The initiative aligns with a broader governmental action plan, "Independence That Unites Us. Moldova 35," approved on 29 July. The initiative specifically targets Moldovans at home and across the diaspora who came of age alongside the independent nation.
Citizens wishing to participate can submit their entries to [email protected] until 20 August.
A nationwide series of celebratory events
Moldova officially marks 35 years of independence on 27 August. The national program includes more than 20 events across the country and abroad, featuring traditional celebrations in Chișinău's Great National Assembly Square and a military parade.
The festivities will extend through the autumn with the Great National Dictation on 31 August, cultural exhibitions, and youth projects. Special commemorative coins and postage stamps will also be issued by the National Bank of Moldova.
The broader agenda includes the National Prize Gala, the "Maria Bieșu" International Opera and Ballet Festival, European Heritage Days, and traditional craft fairs. The new academic year will begin on 1 September with a dedicated "Independence Lesson" across schools nationwide.
