Moldova suspends civil registration services abroad in August
Moldovan citizens living abroad will be unable to submit new civil registration applications at diplomatic missions and consular posts from 1 to 31 August 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the temporary pause to facilitate a transition to an upgraded national IT platform.
The month-long suspension affects key services, including birth, marriage, and divorce registrations, as well as official name changes and related administrative procedures.
System modernization driving pause
Foreign Ministry officials emphasized that the temporary halt is necessary to deploy the new 'Civil Status Acts' Information System (SI ASC). The platform aims to modernize administrative workflows and speed up service delivery for overseas citizens once operational.
"This temporary suspension is required to transition to the new system, which will streamline civil status services for Moldovan citizens abroad," the Ministry stated.
Digital alternatives remain active
Consular offices will continue processing all applications submitted prior to 1 August 2026 without interruption.
During the transition window, citizens holding a recognized electronic signature can obtain digital civil status certificates online via the government portal at evo.gov.md.
Resumption in September
Diplomatic missions and consulates will resume full intake of civil status applications on 1 September 2026, processing all new requests through the updated digital platform.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens to adjust their travel and administrative plans to account for the August closure.
