Moldova to invest €80 million in 25 vocational schools by 2032

Vocational School No. 2 in Cahul plans to renovate an unusable dormitory and install modern training equipment as part of an €80 million national upgrade (approx. 1.6 billion MDL).

The school is one of 25 vocational schools, colleges and centers of excellence set to benefit from the programme, which runs from 2026 to 2032. It covers 47 buildings, including teaching blocks and dormitories, and the equipping of workshops. More than 23,000 students are expected to benefit.

“Modernization of vocational technical education never stops. Technologies evolve and employers’ requirements grow, so a vocational institution has to keep pace to stay competitive on the labor market,” said Ecaterina Miron, the school’s director, on Radio Moldova’s “Zi de Zi” programme.

Miron said the school’s only working dormitory cannot house all students who come from other localities. The second dormitory is currently in poor condition.

“We want to improve accommodation conditions and create a space where students feel at home. We are counting on this project to open it and give every student the chance to find housing,” said Miron.

Practical training tailored to the labor market

With more than six decades of experience training skilled workers, the school prepares specialists in transport, energy and construction. It has already installed a 50 kW photovoltaic system, which improves its energy efficiency and lets students work with green technologies.

Miron said new equipment must come with teacher training and updated teaching methods, so students gain skills they can apply at work.

“Once we bring new equipment into the institution, we also invest in human resources. We train teachers so they can use the equipment effectively in theory and practice classes,” said Miron.

She added that the investment could make the regional school more attractive and strengthen its partnerships with businesses.
