Soroca: Bird flu confirmed in a swan found dead on the banks of the Nistru
A case of bird flu in migratory birds has been reported in the north of the country. A dead swan was found on the banks of the Nistru, and laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the virus, which is highly contagious and can also affect domestic birds. The Emergency Situations Commission met in session and ordered exceptional epizootic situation in the Soroca district.

In the district, particularly in the municipality of Soroca, restrictions have been implemented on the sale of poultry meat and eggs from private households. Residents are also advised not to approach swans to feed them.
“The disease is highly contagious and spreads rapidly when sick birds come into contact with healthy ones. We recommend staying away from wild birds and not feeding them by hand,” explained Tudor Moraru, head of ANSA Soroca.
“The Directorate of Emergency Situations is overseeing all efforts to combat these diseases in the Soroca district. They will also monitor the local public administration's implementation of the necessary measures outlined in the action plan,” stated Igor Brighidin, deputy head of DSE Soroca.
According to ANSA data, four cases of bird flu were reported in the Soroca district last year, affecting both wild and domestic birds. Specialists urge bird owners and breeders to keep their birds indoors and to promptly notify veterinarians if they observe any clinical signs of the disease.
