Moldova cracks down on political parties over financial violations

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Moldova has identified serious financial reporting violations among several political parties.

During its February 14 meeting, the CEC reviewed financial reports for the second half of 2024 and found that multiple parties failed to submit mandatory documents through the "Financial Control" electronic system, as required by law.

As a result, the CEC has requested the Ministry of Justice to initiate the dissolution of the Party of Working People, Moldova United – Единая Молдова, the Conservative Party, and the Party of the Regions. These parties failed to submit financial reports through the mandatory system for both 2023 and the first half of 2024, a violation that, under the law, can lead to dissolution.

Additionally, the Socialist Party of Moldova and the Alternative Force and Salvation of Moldova Party face a six-month suspension after missing financial reporting deadlines for two consecutive semesters.

Regarding the "ȘANSĂ" Party, the CEC has submitted additional information to the Ministry of Justice to support an ongoing dissolution process that began in early February.

Meanwhile, the New Historical Option Party has committed similar violations, but dissolution proceedings cannot begin yet, as authorities await a final court ruling on restricting its activities.

These measures highlight Moldova's stricter enforcement of financial transparency rules for political parties, reinforcing accountability and compliance with legal standards.
