Moldova raises minimum pensions to 3,300 lei under new law

The bill amending the Public Pension Law, which increases the minimum pension for individuals with at least 40 years of contributions to the social insurance system, has been signed into law by President Maia Sandu.

The announcement was made by President Maia Sandu on her Facebook page and in an official statement from the presidential administration. Beginning in May, these pensioners will receive a guaranteed minimum pension of 3,300 lei (~170 euro).

“This law is primarily intended to support older adults who have contributed for many years but received low pensions due to low wages. Now, their pensions will increase,” stated Maia Sandu.

Eligible beneficiaries will be automatically identified in the "Social Protection" Information System, managed by the National Social Insurance Agency (CNAS). Pensions will be increased automatically, without individuals needing to apply at local social insurance offices.

According to CNAS data, there are currently 30,611 people in Moldova with at least 40 years of contributions whose pensions are under 3,300 lei.

Additionally, President Maia Sandu stated that the government will raise pensions by 10% this year.
