António Costa: First €300 million installment of EU support for the Republic of Moldova available in April

The first €300 million in funding from the EU’s €1.9 billion Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova will be disbursed by the end of April, announced the President of the European Council António Costa during a press conference alongside Moldovan President Maia Sandu. According to Costa, this financial support is aimed at boosting the Republic of Moldova’s economy and attracting investments. He also condemned Russia’s use of energy as a weapon against Chișinău, calling it unacceptable. However, he reaffirmed that the EU and its member states remain strongly committed to supporting Moldova.

The most important first step was to reduce energy costs for Moldovans in particular, for the most vulnerable households, as well as for schools, hospitals and businesses. We will help you exactly as we helped the Transnistrian region, together we avoided a humanitarian crisis”, said Antonio Costa.

The Republic of Moldova has chosen its European future and has demonstrated its commitment to democracy, freedom and a better life for its children, Antonio Costa argues.

“*Some are trying to undermine Moldova’s path towards progress, towards prosperity and stability, using energy blackmail, fake news, hybrid attacks. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova have stood firm and consolidated their choice of the country’s European path, stating this in the referendum that took place just a few months ago. The European Union has already demonstrated that it stands by Moldovan citizens in times of challenges and crises, you can count on us. We are a reliable partner, a predictable partner. "The European Union and the Republic of Moldova will continue to advocate very firmly for peace," the European official concluded.

EU member states believe in the Republic of Moldova’s potential to progress and become a modern European state, and the EU Growth Plan for Moldova is an investment in raising the quality of life for all citizens, stated President Maia Sandu.

"This plan will bring better roads, so we can travel faster and safer. Lower bills, because we are investing in locally produced energy. Secure, well-paid jobs, so Moldovans can build their future at home. Better schools and hospitals, so every child has a modern classroom and every patient is treated with dignity and respect. Our path toward the European Union will be felt starting in 2025," said Sandu.
