Marcel Dumbravan is the new acting head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office

Dumbravan Marcel was appointed as the interim head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (PA). This decision was approved by the Superior Council of Prosecutors on Tuesday, March 3.

"Accepting this position for me is a managerial challenge. The PA's field of activity is familiar and close to me, I understand the responsibilities of the position and I will strive to cope with the managerial field. I know that it is not easy, I will count on the support of the PA team and the Prosecutor General's Office", declared Dumbravan.

We remind you that the position became vacant after Veronica Dragalin announced her resignation on February 19, requesting to be released from office starting March 21, 2025.

Veronica Dragalin, at the end of her term: "Unfortunately, this chapter ends in a way I did not foresee"

At the end of her term, Veronica Dragalin shared a heartfelt message on social media, stating that she was leaving her position "with a heavy heart," but remained committed to the fight against corruption.

"I was honored to lead a team of professionals dedicated to combating corruption, a mission I accepted with determination and integrity. Unfortunately, this chapter concludes in a way I did not foresee, highlighting the significant challenges that still obstruct true justice and the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova."

She expressed gratitude to her colleagues in the institution for their support and professionalism, encouraging anti-corruption prosecutors to "be strong and principled." Dragalin also mentioned that she would join the citizens of Moldova "as a simple citizen" and continue to closely monitor the work of the authorities.

"To my colleagues in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, I respect your courage and professionalism. I am grateful for the way you welcomed me into your team and treated me with honor and dignity. Be strong, be principled, and never lose sight of the reason we dedicated our careers to serving the interests of citizens. Change is never easy, but it is always worth it.

To the citizens: starting today, I join you as a simple citizen of the Republic of Moldova who loves this country and has the privilege and responsibility to vigilantly oversee the activities of public institutions and those in power."

On February 19, 2025, Veronica Dragalin announced that she had submitted her resignation, expressing her "hope" that the draft law proposing the merger of the two specialized prosecutor’s offices—the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS)—would not advance.

Veronica Dragalin was appointed head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office in the summer of 2022. Originally from the Republic of Moldova, she grew up, studied, and trained as a prosecutor in the United States. Although Dragalin was promoted to her position by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), she has recently faced criticism from some party members, including representatives of the country's leadership.
