Trump slams government waste, praises Elon Musk’s role
During his speech before Congress, Donald Trump criticized what he described as the “tremendous waste” of federal government funds, highlighting spending in various countries, including Moldova and Serbia, on what he deemed unnecessary programs.

These nations have traditionally received U.S. aid through USAID, the agency that Trump shut down. Among them, he singled out Lesotho, an African country, calling it “a place nobody has ever heard of” while citing examples of government-funded initiatives he considered wasteful, according to News.ro, citing AFP.
Trump pointed to an $8 million program in Lesotho aimed at promoting LGBTQ+ rights, asserting that it had been eliminated by billionaire Elon Musk and his Office of Government Efficiency.
He also suggested that deceased individuals were receiving Social Security payments en masse, despite this claim being refuted by the acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration.
“All these scams—they’re even worse, but I didn’t think it was the right time to talk about them,” Trump said. “They are so bad,” he insisted, emphasizing that many more had been “exposed” by a group of “very intelligent people, mostly young, led by Elon (Musk).”
Trump claimed that his Office of Government Efficiency uncovered “hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud,” which, according to him, were eliminated to reduce the national debt and combat inflation.
Elon Musk stood up to applaud several of Trump’s remarks, including the restoration of free speech, making English the official language of the U.S., and requiring federal employees to return to in-person work.
At one point, Trump explicitly praised Musk, prompting a standing ovation for the billionaire.
