Rate of road accidents in 2025 at the lowest level in the last nine years

In the first two months of 2025, the number of road accidents was at its lowest level in the past nine years, according to data from the General Police Inspectorate (IGP). A total of 240 accidents were recorded, which resulted in 24 deaths and 272 injuries.
The main causes of road accidents include speeding, failure to adapt to road conditions, driver inattention, and drunk driving.
"Road safety is a concern for all citizens. Creating secure conditions for all participants in road traffic, reducing the number of accidents, and minimizing their consequences is a priority for the police. That is why, through the National Inspectorate of Public Security and local road services, efforts are continuously made to reduce road risks. These efforts focus on tackling the main causes of serious road accidents and enforcing traffic laws on public roads," states the cited source.
To mitigate road risks, the police regularly conduct prevention campaigns and collaborate with civil society organizations. They also organize meetings with target groups and provide road education classes in schools.
"For us, every life matters. The goal of the police is to reduce the number of fatalities in road accidents to zero," said Police representatives.
Statistics show that the highest number of accidents recorded in a single year was 359 in 2017, and the peak number of deaths from accidents occurred in 2018, with 54 deaths.
