Socialists propose a joint platform for free elections. Analyst: It is an attempt to undermine the vote

The Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) is calling for the creation of a National Platform for Free and Fair Elections, inviting all Moldovan political parties, especially those in opposition, to join. According to the BCS parliamentary faction leader, the platform aims to unite political forces to prevent possible electoral fraud. However, political analyst Nicolae Negru sees the move as part of a broader Moscow-inspired strategy to cast doubt on the upcoming election results.

"We come with a message of consolidation... we propose the unification of opposition forces within this platform to prevent the falsification of the parliamentary election," said the BCS representative.

The BCS claims that public and administrative resources were used in favor of the ruling candidate during the last presidential elections. The platform, they suggest, could also be moderated by extra-parliamentary parties, with the "Alternativa" Bloc and the "Împreună" Bloc specifically invited to take part.

The DA Platform, part of the Împreună Bloc, has already declined the invitation. “We are not joining. We have a political bloc and will participate in the elections independently. Ideologically, we cannot align with parties that are not pro-European,” said DA leader Dinu Plîngău. He added that fair elections should be ensured through observer missions, reporting abuses, and monitoring campaign financing.

"Alternativa Bloc" has not yet responded publicly to the proposal.

The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) dismissed the socialists' accusations as baseless. “They are aberrations. In both past and upcoming elections, we fully respect electoral legislation,” stated PAS spokesperson Adriana Vlas.

Political analyst Nicolae Negru criticized the BCS initiative, calling it part of a larger Moscow-influenced strategy.

“This statement echoes Moscow’s stance of not recognizing presidential election results. It is also a preemptive attempt to discredit the upcoming parliamentary elections,” Negru explained.

We remind you, that the parliamentary elections are officially scheduled for September 28, 2025, a decision adopted by Parliament on April 17. The BCS contested the chosen date, proposing instead that the elections be held earlier, on July 27.
