Evghenia Guțul remains under house arrest following the Court of Appeal's decision

The Bashkan of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, remains under house arrest. A decision to this effect was made today, April 17, by magistrates from the Court of Appeal, who rejected the prosecutors' request to place her in preventive arrest and the lawyers' request to release her from house arrest.
"The risks are the same that were the basis for applying the preventive measure, as well as for extending the measure. There is a risk of evading the criminal investigation bodies, of hindering the proper conduct of the criminal investigation," explained the prosecutor in the case, Adrian Scutaru.
For her part, Evghenia Guțul claims that it is an unfair decision.
"It is against the law, and cruel, but at least I will be with my family. Today's decision cannot be subject to any appeal, but we will continue to fight because my detention, my stay in prison are illegal," said Evghenia Guțul.
The bashkan was detained on March 25, at Chișinău International Airport, while trying to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova. On March 28, Guțul was placed in preventive detention for 20 days, accused of mismanagement of electoral funds, illegal financing and falsification of documents to support her electoral campaign. On April 9, magistrates from the Chișinău Court based in Ciocana decided to transfer her to house arrest for 30 days.
We remind you that Evghenia Guțul rejects the accusations and declares herself innocent.
