Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu chosen as Supreme Court judge

Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu was appointed by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) to serve as a judge on the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). This decision was made during a plenary session held on May 15, where five candidates were evaluated.

Ion Munteanu achieved the highest score of 76.5, followed closely by Leonid Chirtoacă, who scored 76 points. The remaining three candidates—Ludmila Bolocan, Aliona Ciocanu, and Ruslan Berzoi—did not meet the required score to advance in the competition, reads a press release from the SCM.

In accordance with the legislation, the SCM has proposed to Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, the appointment of Ion Munteanu and Leonid Chirtoacă as judges at the SCJ.

Additionally, we remind you that Ion Munteanu was appointed as Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova in June 2024. Prior to this, he served as the acting Prosecutor General after Dumitru Robu's mandate expired.

Munteanu holds a law degree from the State University of Moldova and has a master’s degree in economic law, which he obtained at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova during the 2006-2007 academic year.

His professional career began in 2006. From 2010 to 2018, he worked at the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, where he also served as the deputy head for a period of time.
