Lithuanian Prime Minister: "EU is the best choice - it is the path to development and democracy"

The European Union is the best choice for fostering development and democracy, as each member country contributes its best practices. This statement was made by Gintautas Paluckas, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, during the "Diplomatic Dimension" show on Moldova 1 TV. He made these comments in the context of the parliamentary elections scheduled in the Republic of Moldova this fall.

Gintautas Paluckas remarked that countries wishing to remain within Russia's sphere of influence are not making progress; instead, they are either stagnating or, even worse, experiencing a decline in living standards and quality of life.

He emphasized that Russia will continue to pose a permanent threat, and to counteract its influence, each country must bolster its defenses. Paluckas stated, "If we do not prepare the right tools, such as defense and social resilience, we may face dire consequences. We could find ourselves in military conflicts or occupying smaller nations. In my view, the only way to confront these threats is to be prepared, as Russia only recognizes and responds to power."

During a press conference in Chisinau, the Lithuanian Prime Minister reiterated that Lithuania remains a dependable partner for the Republic of Moldova on its journey towards European integration. Lithuania is committed to providing expertise and technical assistance to support reforms and diversify the energy sector. According to Paluckas, the Vilnius authorities will prioritize the Republic of Moldova on their government agenda.

We remind you that Lithuania decided to increase its defense spending at the start of the year. Beginning next year, it will reach 5.25 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
