Ion Munteanu, appointed judge at the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova

Ion Munteanu has been appointed a judge on the Supreme Court of Justice. Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, signed a decree to this effect.
The magistrate will commence his duties once the presidential decree, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova, comes into effect.
This appointment is made in accordance with Article 116, paragraph (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, and Article 7, paragraphs (5) and (7) of the Law on the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Superior Council of Magistracy has selected Ion Munteanu, the current Prosecutor General, to serve as a judge on the Supreme Court of Justice. This decision followed a plenary session held on May 15, during which five candidates were evaluated. Munteanu received the highest score of 76.5, closely followed by Leonid Chirtoacă, who scored 76.
Ion Munteanu was appointed the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova in June 2024. Before this appointment, he served as the acting Prosecutor General after Dumitru Robu's term ended.
Munteanu holds a law degree from the State University of Moldova and obtained a master's degree in economic law from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova in the 2006-2007 academic year.
His career began in 2006, and he worked at the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for eight years, from 2010 to 2018. During that time, he also held the position of deputy head of the Prosecutor's Office.
