Bashkan Evghenia Guțul to deliver “last word” in court on July 1 as trial ends

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has announced that the judicial investigation into the criminal case involving Evghenia Guțul, the governor of the Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova, and the secretary of the central office of the former "Șor" Party was completed. The final conclusions from both parties will be presented in court on July 1st.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office stated that "it will support its position in court based on the evidence presented during the criminal investigation phase and the examination of the case on its merits."

The next hearing is scheduled for July 1, 2025, when the parties will present their final conclusions during the judicial debates.

We remind you that Evghenia Guțul, the mayor, is involved in a criminal case concerning the illegal financing of the former "Sor" Party. She is joined in this case by the secretary of the party's territorial organization, which has been declared unconstitutional in the Republic of Moldova.

Additionally, Evghenia Guțul faces charges of fraudulent management of electoral funds, illegal financing, and falsification of documents in support of her 2023 electoral campaign.

Guțul was detained on March 25 at Chișinău International Airport while preparing to fly to Istanbul. Initially placed in preventive arrest, her situation was later changed to house arrest.

If found guilty, Evghenia Guțul could face a fine of 57,500 to 92,500 lei, imprisonment for 2 to 7 years, and a possible deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for 2 to 5 years.

Evghenia Guțul does not plead guilty.
