The Moldovan government has updated the official list of vocational training fields to include three new qualifications aligned with the principles of the green economy and sustainable development: solar heating systems installer, geothermal heat pump installer, and food intake and distribution coordinator.

This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on 11 June, where the Ministry of Education and Research presented the initiative as part of a broader effort to modernise Moldova’s vocational education system. The aim is to better align training programs with the needs of the labour market, particularly in sectors that address energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and the food industry.

"Given the ongoing energy crisis and the need for a transition to green energy, we are focusing on improving vocational education programs to prepare qualified specialists in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies," said Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.

According to Galina Rusu, Secretary General of the Ministry, long-term training programs in these new fields will be launched starting 1 September by the Centre of Excellence in Energy and Electronics. The initiative will be supported by the development of an accreditation mechanism to ensure the quality and recognition of the new qualifications.

This reform is seen as a strategic response to both current socio-economic challenges and Moldova’s long-term sustainability goals. It also reflects the country’s commitment to equipping its workforce with future-oriented skills that can drive green growth and improve resilience in key sectors.
