Zelenskyy urges EU for tougher Russia sanctions, oil cap

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the European Union to adopt tougher sanctions against Russia, following the announcement of the draft 18th sanctions package.

The statement was made during the "Ukraine – Southeast Europe" summit, held Wednesday in Odessa.

Zelenskyy stated that the 18th package of sanctions against Russia "could be tougher, especially those targeting Russia's oil tankers and financial sector."

"A $45 oil price cap is better than $60,' Zelenskyy said, acknowledging its truth. 'But real peace will come with a $30 cap. That's the level that will truly change Moscow's mindset.'

According to "European Pravda," the European Union's draft 18th sanctions package against Russia proposes reducing the price cap for Russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel.

However, Ukraine has pushed for an even stricter threshold, demanding a maximum price of $30 per barrel.

European Union representatives have indicated that, even without an agreement with the United States on the new cap reduction, Brussels could decide to adopt this measure unilaterally.

On Tuesday, the European Commission unveiled the 18th sanctions package against Russia, targeting two key sectors: energy and banking.
