Moldova's first EU Summit: Justice reform in focus

The first-ever Moldova-European Union Summit, scheduled for July 4 in Chișinău, marks a significant stride in the country's European integration.

President Maia Sandu announced this during her meeting with Jānis Mažeiks, the European Union Ambassador to Chișinău. Officials finalized the organizational details for this dialogue between Chișinău and Brussels, which is intended to become a regular fixture.

During their discussion, the two officials assessed the current status of the accession process, noting progress in aligning national legislation with European standards.

A central topic of their talks was justice reform—a key commitment by Chișinău authorities in their relationship with European partners. The head of state reiterated that the country will continue efforts to build a fair, efficient, and independent judicial system, for the benefit of its citizens.

Also on the meeting's agenda was the risk of external interference ahead of this autumn's parliamentary elections. Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of holding elections free from foreign influence, ensuring that Moldovan citizens can decide their future democratically and transparently, as conveyed by the Presidency in Chișinău.
