Former "Șor" Party leader from Anenii Noi on trial for spending 3 million lei from an organized criminal group

The president of the Anenii Noi territorial office of the former "Sor" Party is set to stand trial for his alleged involvement in an organised criminal group's illegal financing of the party. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office completed the criminal investigation and submitted the case to the court.

According to the investigation, between July and October 2022, the defendant, who was in charge of the party's local organization, allegedly accepted and spent approximately 3 million lei from an organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor.

This money was reportedly used for political activities aimed at promoting the party's interests and influencing the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova through illegal means.

The defendant denies any wrongdoing, and the case was forwarded to the Chisinau Court based in Buiucani.

Prosecutors seized the defendant's assets, which are valued at over 400,000 lei, to enforce a potential sentence and prevent confiscation.

If convicted, the defendant faces a fine ranging from 57,500 to 92,500 lei or a prison sentence of two to seven years, along with a ban on holding public office for up to five years.

We remind you that several members of the former "Sor" Political Party are involved in criminal cases related to the party's illegal financing. These include MP Marina Tauber, the Bashkan of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, and MPs Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi.

The case concerning the illegal financing of the former "Sor" Party, which was declared unconstitutional, was initiated in early 2022.
