Monthly allowances for people with Chernobyl-related disabilities will increase starting August 1

Starting August 1, 2025, people with disabilities who participated in the cleanup efforts following the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident will receive a monthly state allowance increased by 250 lei. This provision is included in a draft law reviewed by the Parliament's Social Protection, Health, and Family Committee.
The increase in allowances will benefit individuals with severe, accentuated, or medium disabilities, including military personnel, intelligence and security officers, members of internal affairs forces, and staff from the penitentiary administration whose health was adversely affected during the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant intervention. Additionally, those who developed actinic disease or became unfit for work due to nuclear incidents or radiation exposure during military or special service will also qualify for these benefits.
According to data from the National Social Insurance House, approximately 1,513 people will receive increased allowances.
This initiative, proposed by Deputy Iulia Dascălu from the "Action and Solidarity Party" parliamentary faction, aims to enhance social protection for vulnerable groups. It is set to be voted on in a plenary session of Parliament.
