Moldova's EU future: Declaration outlines 2030 goal

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Gherasimov, welcomed the Moldovan Parliament's Declaration on the country's EU accession, adopted at the end of the current legislative session.

According to Cristina Gherasimov, the document reaffirms Moldova's strong commitment to its European path and highlights the tangible benefits of its partnership with the European Union—from economic opportunities and increased mobility to security and solidarity.

She noted that through this declaration, the legislature urges the incoming Parliament to maintain the European course and calls on the government to ensure free and fair elections, encouraging citizens to look with confidence toward the country's European future.

Cristina Gherasimov highlighted the main stages the country has completed in recent years on its path to EU accession: submitting its membership application in March 2022, obtaining candidate status in June 2022, officially opening negotiations in June 2024, beginning bilateral screening in July 2024, adopting the Growth Plan for Moldova in May 2025, and organizing the Moldova–EU Summit in July.

"We'll continue to work together so that Moldova becomes a member state of the European Union by 2030," stated Cristina Gherasimov.

On July 10, Parliament adopted the Declaration on the country's EU accession, reaffirming its firm resolve to continue on the irreversible path of European integration. The document, approved by 62 deputies, calls for unity among all political forces, public institutions, and civil society around this strategic national objective.

The Declaration highlights the progress made in recent years, including obtaining candidate country status in 2022, the opening of accession negotiations in 2024, and a new level of bilateral relations, underscored during the first Moldova–EU Summit held in Chișinău in July 2025. The document also notes that the partnership with the EU has delivered real and tangible benefits for the citizens of Moldova—more economic opportunities, support for communities, increased mobility, security, and social protection against the backdrop of crises that have affected the entire region.
