Two new deputies for acting General Prosecutor approved by CSP

Sergiu Russu and Sergiu Brigai were appointed as deputies to the acting Prosecutor General, Alexandru Machidon. They will serve in these roles for the entire duration of his mandate. The appointments were approved by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) during their meeting on July 17, based on a proposal from Machidon.
Both Sergiu Russu and Sergiu Brigai held their positions during the tenure of former Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu.
According to the request submitted by Alexandru Machidon, Sergiu Russu will be responsible for overseeing criminal prosecution.
"The increasing complexity of criminal phenomena and the diversity of situations make teamwork indispensable. When selecting the candidate, we considered his professional and personal qualities, as well as his managerial skills relevant to the institutional field," said Machidon.
Russu expressed that maintaining his position will enable him to continue the projects he has initiated: "We have several objectives to achieve together with the teams in our division, particularly developing the strategic plan for the prosecutor's office for the upcoming period. We also have certain legislative objectives to accomplish, which motivate me to continue working in the position for which I was proposed."
Regarding Sergiu Brigai, Machidon noted that he has over 18 years of experience in the prosecution system, with 13 of those years in the judicial field.
"Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself through consistent professionalism, deep knowledge of the field, and a balanced approach in fulfilling his responsibilities," Machidon stated.
During the CSP meeting, Brigai emphasized that continuing the directions established during his mandate as Deputy Prosecutor General remains a priority. "First and foremost, we aim to unify practices in supporting state prosecution and to hold prosecutors accountable in this process," he highlighted.
We remind you that, according to legislation, the Prosecutor General can directly propose candidates for deputy positions without a competition, provided that the CSP gives its consent, which verifies the fulfillment of legal requirements. These requirements include a minimum of 10 years of experience as a prosecutor within the last 15 years, managerial skills, and an impeccable reputation.
