Migrant smuggling for $6,000: 53-year-old man detained by Border Police

A 53-year-old man, identified as the leader of an organized criminal group specializing in illegal migration, was detained by the Border Police. Authorities report that the suspect allegedly facilitated the illegal crossing of six Ukrainian citizens, aged between 20 and 40, from Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, circumventing official border crossing points.

The investigation reveals that the leader of the network charged each migrant between $4,000 and $6,000 for illegal crossing, transportation, and accommodation in the Republic of Moldova.

On July 21, 2025, based on the amassed evidence and statements provided by foreign citizens, officers raided the suspect's home and searched the vehicles used in the commission of the criminal activities. During these actions, draft documents, dozens of SIM cards, and other items of evidential value were confiscated.

This is not the suspect's first offence; he was previously involved in a criminal case for similar activities.

Currently, the man is detained for 72 hours, and the investigation is ongoing to identify all members involved in the network and hold them criminally accountable.
