Moldovans in France gain first-time access to Moldova pensions

Moldovan citizens residing in France can access old-age pensions, survivors' pensions, and disability pensions from the Republic of Moldova. This change allows for the first time the accumulation of contribution periods completed in both countries.
On August 6, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the signing of an Administrative Arrangement related to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the French Republic concerning social security, which was concluded in Paris on March 10, 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated at the Government meeting, "The main provisions of the Agreement ensure the recognition of contribution periods and contributions from both countries, allowing for the direct payment of pensions and contributions to the accounts of citizens from both states. Shortly after implementing the technical arrangement, our citizens will be able to receive pensions and disability contributions for the first time, regardless of their location."
In this context, Popșoi emphasized the significant contribution of the representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Paris, and the cooperation of French authorities, who supported this initiative.
The agreement will take effect shortly after the French side completes its internal procedures for approving the technical arrangement.
It is important to note that the Republic of Moldova has signed international social security agreements based on the principle of proportionality with several countries, including Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Greece, Italy, Spain, Latvia, and others.
Additionally, the Republic of Moldova is currently negotiating social security treaties with Ukraine, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ireland, and Albania. These agreements will enable Moldovans who have worked legally in these countries to receive pensions, whether they choose to remain abroad or return home.
