Moldova’s new judges take oath amid protests

Five new judges of Moldova’s Constitutional Court—Liuba Șova, Nicolae Roșca, Domnica Manole, Sergiu Litvinenco, and Ion Malanciuc—were sworn into office at the Parliament on Sunday, August 17.

The ceremony was attended by President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and 78 members of parliament. While the parliamentary majority applauded each judge as they stepped up to read their oath, the opposition chanted, "Resign!," "Shame!," and "Usurpers!"

The special parliamentary session lasted about 15 minutes. During the ceremony, MPs paid respect to the national flag and anthem and watched the five judges take their oaths.

This is a developing story.
