Escapee from Bender penitentiary sentenced to 11 more years for robberies

An inmate who escaped from Penitentiary No. 8 in Bender was sentenced to an additional 11 years in prison for multiple robberies and assaults committed following his escape. The sentence was pronounced by magistrates in Orhei, as announced by the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, the man, who had previously been convicted of property crimes, escaped on the night of May 16, 2025. Less than a month later, on June 10, he entered a house in the village of Ghermănești, Telenești district, wearing a balaclava. Under the threat of violence, he robbed a 37-year-old woman of 700 lei.
Five days later, on June 15, the defendant committed another crime, this time in the village of Peresecina, Orhei district. Armed with a knife, he threatened a woman with death and stole gold jewelry and money, causing her total damages estimated at nearly 79,000 lei.
The defendant pleaded guilty, and the case was processed through a simplified procedure. He was apprehended on June 27, 2025, following a joint operation by the Orhei Prosecutor's Office, the Orhei Police Inspectorate, and the National Investigation Inspectorate. During a body search, gold items and other goods that were believed to be stolen were discovered.
