Moldovan rescuers join EU MODEX 2025 exercise in Riga

Rescuers and firefighters from the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) are participating in the international exercise "EU MODEX LOT2 Latvia 2025," taking place in Riga, Latvia, from September 6 to 13. This training is conducted in accordance with European Union standards and aims to enhance the interoperability and institutional integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European civil protection system.
The Republic of Moldova is represented by the CBRN Module of the IGSU, which is a specialized team dedicated to responding to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear emergencies. This module consists of 29 rescuers and seven technical units. It is deployed to handle complex situations, such as hazardous substance spills, isolating contaminated areas, decontaminating equipment and victims, and implementing personnel protection procedures.
The exercise, organized by an international consortium led by the Austrian Red Cross, in collaboration with organizations from France, Germany, Latvia, and other European countries, aims to enhance cooperation and improve the intervention capabilities of international teams during emergencies.
According to the IGSU, Moldova's participation in EU MODEX demonstrates its commitment to ongoing training, international cooperation, and the development of intervention capabilities, contributing to a unified European space of security and resilience.
