Ukraine: Three killed in overnight Russian drone and missile strikes

Three people have been killed and more than 10 civilians injured in Ukraine in a Russian drone and missile attack, officials say.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Serhii Lysak said several high-rise buildings, homes, and garages were damaged. Fires have also been reported in Pavlohrad and Nikopol, with explosions heard in the cities of Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv.

The Kyiv region’s military administration said strikes were reported in the communities of Bucha, Boryspil and Obukhiv. A house, 10 garages, and five parked cars were damaged in the attack.

In Mykolaiv, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych reported that a residential area of the city was damaged, but no casualties were reported.

Air raid sirens were activated across all regions of the country between 05:45 and 07:00 local time. The Ukrainian Air Force said dozens of drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, were flying over Ukrainian territory.

"Each such strike is not a military necessity but a deliberate strategy by Russia to intimidate civilians and destroy our infrastructure," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Telegram. "This is why a strong international response is needed. Ukraine has shown it can defend itself and Europe, but for a reliable shield, we must act together: strengthen anti-aircraft defences, increase weapon deliveries, and expand sanctions against the Russian war machine and the sectors that finance it. Every limitation imposed on Russia saves lives. I thank everyone who is helping and supporting us."

Mr Zelenskyy said Russia used 40 missiles - both cruise and ballistic - and about 580 drones of various types overnight.
