Israel strikes Hezbollah arms depot in Lebanon

The Israeli military announced on Sunday it had struck an arms depot belonging to the Iran-backed group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, reports say.
"The depot was used by the group to plan and carry out attacks against Israel," the military statement said. It added that "the presence of such infrastructure constitutes a violation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon."
Hezbollah opened a front against Israel following the start of the conflict in Gaza on 7 October 2023, saying it was acting in support of its ally, Hamas. The fighting escalated into all-out war in September 2024, before a ceasefire took effect on 27 November.
However, Israel continues to carry out regular strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
The Hezbollah group, which holds significant political power in Lebanon, is under intense pressure to disarm and hand over its weapons to the Lebanese state. The Lebanese army has drawn up a plan to disarm it, beginning in the south of the country, on the border with Israel. The Iran-backed group refuses to disarm, Agerpres reports.
