Vladimir Andronachi will remain in detention for another 30 days

Former Democratic MP Vladimir Andronachi will remain in pre-trial detention for another 30 days. The decision was made on Tuesday, September 30, by the Chișinău Court based in Ciocana. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office announced that the court upheld the request to extend the preventive measure applied to Andronachi.

Former Democratic MP Vladimir Andronachi was detained on September 2 and placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days on September 5.

He is targeted in a new criminal case and accused of large-scale money laundering, an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

Case prosecutor Nicolae Busuioc stated that the criminal investigation began back in 2021, when Andronachi was active as an entrepreneur. However, this year new evidence was obtained, leading to the reopening of the case. In court, his lawyer, Vladimir Moșneaga, said the former MP does not plead guilty.

Other pending cases

Vladimir Andronachi’s name also appears in three other criminal cases: one episode of the “bank fraud” case, the “Metalferos” case, and the case regarding the purchase of passport blanks. In all of these, he is accused of causing the state millions of lei in damages and laundering money in favor of a criminal organization.

A former vice president of the Democratic Party and close associate of Vladimir Plahotniuc, Andronachi served as an MP in Moldova’s Parliament between 2015 and 2021. In November 2022, he was detained in Ukraine and extradited to Chișinău after having previously fled the country.

After a period in detention, he was placed under house arrest, and in August 2023 he was released on personal bail of 22,000 lei, an amount paid by several guarantors, including a priest.
