Electoral corruption in Sângerei: two women fined 40,000 lei each

Two women from the Sângerei district were convicted of electoral corruption related to acts committed during the 2024 fall elections. They offered electoral bribes of 2,400 lei each to some supporters and will now face fines of 40,000 lei each.
On October 7, the magistrates of the Balti Court issued a sentence regarding two defendants accused of attempting to manipulate voter behavior in September 2024. The defendants allegedly offered 2,400 lei each to voters and supporters in a locality within the Sângerei district.
In exchange for this money, voters were instructed to vote against the Republic of Moldova's accession to the EU in the constitutional referendum scheduled for October 2024. They were also urged to select any candidate other than Maia Sandu in the upcoming presidential elections.
The two women have not confessed to any wrongdoing.
This sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Nord Court of Appeal.
