First flu cases of the season confirmed in Chisinau; ANSP urges vaccination

The first two cases of seasonal flu this cold season were registered in Chisinau. According to data presented by the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP), over 1,700 cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections (IACRS) were reported in the last week, with most cases occurring among children.

ANSP specialists report that the total number of respiratory infections has decreased by 60% compared to the same period in the previous season. In the institution's laboratories, during this period, 15 biological samples were analyzed to identify influenza, non-influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2.

Additionally, 61 cases of COVID-19 were reported, representing a 51% decrease compared to the previous week. Notably, 11 cases were confirmed among children.

For the 2025-2026 flu season, the Republic of Moldova has purchased 240,000 doses of the "Influvac Tetra" flu vaccine, each containing 0.5 mL of active substance in a pre-filled syringe. The composition of the vaccine fully complies with the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

ANSP urges the population to be vaccinated simultaneously against seasonal influenza and SARS-CoV-2 infection, stating that immunity develops within two to three weeks after vaccination and is maintained for six to 12 months.

At the same time, the institution emphasizes the importance of personal hygiene measures and a healthy lifestyle in preventing respiratory diseases. It is recommended to wash your hands frequently with soap and water, use tissues when coughing or sneezing, avoid contact with sick people, and maintain a balanced diet, a sufficient rest schedule, and regular physical activity.

We would like to point out that, during the 2024–2025 influenza season, 4,168 cases of influenza, over 154,000 cases of IACRS, and over 14,000 cases of severe acute respiratory infections were reported in the Republic of Moldova.
