Former Edineț Court president, searched by CNA and prosecutors

A former interim president of the Edineț Court is being investigated in a case involving influence peddling. He is accused of demanding money to sway a court decision. Officers from the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) and prosecutors from the Chișinău Municipal Prosecutor's Office conducted searches at the magistrate's home, office, and car, confiscating documents and other items relevant to the investigation.
According to the CNA, the former interim president allegedly requested and received, through a man and other unidentified individuals, sums of money to persuade a court in Edineț to replace the preventive arrest of a defendant with his release under judicial control for 60 days. The exact amount is to be determined during the investigation.
Investigators say that this case is related to a corruption scheme uncovered in July 2025, in which a lawyer and several intermediaries allegedly demanded approximately 500,000 lei to influence a prosecutor in an illegal migration case. Following those actions, the person in question was removed from criminal prosecution.
The CNA and prosecutors continue their investigations to identify all individuals involved in this influence peddling case.
