PSRM rejects Munteanu Cabinet; “Alternativa” Bloc demands governing program

The future government, led by Alexandru Munteanu, the Prime Minister candidate from the majority party in Parliament, is set to be inaugurated on October 31. The Socialist parliamentary faction has announced that it will not support the upcoming Cabinet of Ministers. Meanwhile, the deputies of the "Alternative" Bloc have not yet decided on their stance for the Parliament session on Friday.
The deputy of the "Alternative" Bloc, Olga Ursu, listed, on the "360 de grade" show on Radio Moldova, the conditions under which the legislators of this faction would cast their vote in favor of the Munteanu Cabinet.
"Today I had the opportunity to meet with several mayors from the Republic of Moldova at the meeting of the designated prime minister with representatives of the Congress of Local Public Authorities (CALM). During that discussion, many mayors would have liked to hear about a government program or, at least, a few main points on which it will focus. (...) Until we fully know the team and the government program, we cannot decide whether to support the candidacy of the prime minister", declared Ursu.
During the same show, Olga Cebotari, a deputy from the Party of Socialists (PSRM), announced that her faction would not support the Munteanu Government. She emphasized that the proposal comes from the parliamentary majority, which has not offered any ministries to the opposition.
"We participated in the consultations at the Presidency, but we publicly announced that we would not support this Government, because the parliamentary majority supports it. So, the opposition was not offered any ministry, even though such an opportunity could have existed. If this had happened, the opposition would have been more open and could have said there is a national consensus —a consensus Government supported by both the government and the opposition. Then it could have been supported. This did not happen, respectively, we will not support it. (...) Our initial idea was that the Prime Minister, coming from outside, would find it quite difficult to deliver results with a Government formed by PAS decision-makers, who could have objectives other than the Prime Minister's, who presents himself as a technocrat and brings economic objectives. However, we agree that, in the current situation of the country, the economic and social fields are the main priorities that we must focus on", Cebotari stated.
Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) MP Dorian Istratii stressed that the main objective of the future Government will be the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union.
"Our main goal is the country's accession to the EU, as the citizens wanted in the referendum and as written in the Constitution. We will watch how the opposition will support this process," said Istratii.
Asked why no PAS member was proposed for the position of Prime Minister, Istratii explained that the decision started from identifying the profile needed for the future Head of Government: a person with economic experience and the ability to manage current challenges.
"Considering that the PAS president, Igor Grosu, must continue his activity in Parliament, it was decided to elect a person with a strong background, who can face the challenges. It is not a problem to elect people from outside the party. Our goal is not for a PAS member to be prime minister, but to fulfill the promises made to citizens: joining the EU by 2028, preparing the country for this process and implementing a professional government", concluded Dorian Istratii, on the public radio station.
We remind you that the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, announced that the vice presidents of the Legislative and the members of the Standing Bureau will be appointed in the meeting of the Legislative on Thursday, October 30, and on Friday the candidate designated for the position of prime minister and the governing program of the future Cabinet of Ministers will be heard.
So far, the designated Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, has announced six names of future members of the Government: Vladislav Cojuhari, Emil Ceban, Cristian Jardan, Valeriu Chiveri, Eugen Osmochescu and Andrian Gavriliță.
