Parliament honors Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, 33 years after their passing: “Voices of hope and freedom”

At the beginning of the session on October 30, the deputies held a moment of silence in memory of artists Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, honoring them 33 years after the tragic road accident that claimed their lives. During the plenary session, the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, stated that through their work, Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici gave a voice to hope and freedom, inspired generations, and united the hearts of Romanians everywhere.

"Today marks 33 years since the loss of the great artists Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici, symbols of our national rebirth, of courage, dignity and boundless love for the nation and country. Through their songs, they gave a voice to hope and freedom, inspired entire generations and united the hearts of Romanians everywhere. Let us be worthy of their legacy and carefully preserve the ideals for which they lived and sang", noted Igor Grosu.

In the square of the "Requiem of Love" monument in Valea Morilor Park, a commemorative event was held organized by the Chisinau City Hall, with the participation of the Aldea-Teodorovici family, authorities and cultural personalities. The program included recitals and flower laying.

Cristi Aldea-Teodorovici, the artists' son, noted that Ion and Doina left "so young and so fast, but they remain among us": "They are watching over us from above and are permanently in our hearts".

During the event, local authorities announced the inauguration of the Culture and Art Center dedicated to Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici. This institution will host cultural activities, book and album launches, and events promoting the couple's artistic and identity heritage.

*"I hope that this center will become a point of attraction for many young people, for those who truly love art, culture and want to be with us in what we do more beautifully," said Mayor Ion Ceban.

Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici lost their lives in a road accident that occurred on the night of October 29 to 30, 1992, near the town of Coșereni, Romania. The couple fought for the unification of Bessarabia with Romania, for the tricolor and the return to the Latin script.

In 1993, the couple were posthumously awarded the Order of the Republic. In 2003, the "Two Twin Hearts" Festival-Competition was initiated, in memoriam Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici.

In Chișinău, a street in the Buiucani sector bears their name. The "Requiem of Love" or "Two Twin Hearts" monument at the central entrance to the "Valea Morilor" park is also dedicated to them.
