Local leader from the "Șor" group sentenced to three years for organizing paid protests worth eight million lei

He was allegedly involved in accepting and receiving over eight million lei from the criminal group "Sor" to fund illegal activities for the former party, including organizing protests and paying participants. As a result of these actions, the president of the Florești territorial office of the former Political Party "Sor" was sentenced to three years in prison, as decided by the Chișinău Court in Buiucani, on November 13.

The court has ordered the confiscation of over eight million lei used to commit the crime, for the benefit of the state.

According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the convicted individual, along with other group members, knowingly accepted these illegal funds from a criminal organization led by an individual known as "Sor." Their aim was to influence politics in the Republic of Moldova and gain power through illicit means.

As stated in the court's ruling, the convict will serve two years in a semi-closed penitentiary, with one year counted as a probationary period.

Additionally, the individual will be barred from membership in political parties, holding positions within their central or local bodies, participating in political activities, or working in public institutions for 5 years.

Until the final judgment is reached, the man has been placed in preventive detention and was taken into custody directly from the courtroom.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reports that the man fully admitted his guilt and that the case was processed under a simplified procedure.
