Moldova appoints special envoy for Ukraine reconstruction as logistics hub plans advance

Republica Moldova is positioned to become a critical hub for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. The Moldovan government has officially designated Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu as the Special Representative for this process.

Ukrainian Ambassador Paun Rohovei announced the appointment, praising the government’s rapid mobilization. He described Osmochescu as an experienced economist capable of managing high-impact strategic initiatives.

The Iampol-Cosauți bridge: A strategic logistics gateway

The two nations are accelerating road and rail projects to transform Moldova into a vital logistics node. The construction of the Iampol-Cosauți bridge over the Dniester River is a cornerstone of this strategy.

This new corridor will directly connect northern Moldova with Ukraine's Vinnytsia region. The project aims to significantly reduce logistics costs and streamline exports to the European Union markets.

"Moldova is a crucial transit country for our goods," Ambassador Rohovei stated. He noted that a temporary bridge will be installed to provide immediate relief until the permanent structure is completed with international investment.

Energy security through regional decentralization

The conflict has forced Ukraine to decentralize its energy grid to mitigate the impact of Russian strikes. This regional approach ensures that localized damage does not trigger nationwide blackouts.

Ukraine’s connection to the ENTSO-E European power grid has been vital in preventing a total systemic collapse. Ambassador Rohovei credited Moldova’s partnership as a key factor in maintaining regional energy stability.

The Ambassador extended specific gratitude to Moldova's Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu. He emphasized that the energy interconnection with the EU, facilitated through Moldova, remains a lifeline for the Ukrainian people.

A shared path toward European integration

The consolidation of these infrastructure and energy projects serves a dual purpose. Beyond immediate reconstruction, these ties bring both Chisinau and Kyiv closer to full European Union integration.

By modernizing border crossings and synchronizing power grids, the two states are building a foundation for long-term economic resilience and regional security.
