Pentagon involvement probed in strike that killed 168 children at Iranian school
A devastating strike on the Minab primary school for girls has ignited international condemnation as reports emerge alleging the involvement of U.S. precision weaponry. The attack, which occurred Saturday morning during school hours, resulted in the deaths of at least 168 children aged seven to nine.

The educational facility was reduced to ruins in an instant. Located in southern Iran, the school sits in close proximity to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military base, a factor that investigators believe may be central to the incident.
Allegations of U.S. Involvement
Reports from Reuters and The New York Times suggest that Pentagon-directed forces may be responsible for the strike. Initial findings indicate that high-precision weapons, intended for naval targets near the Strait of Hormuz, may have struck the civilian building instead.
Washington has yet to issue an official comment regarding these specific allegations. Meanwhile, the scale of the destruction has drawn sharp rebukes from global human rights observers.
International Reaction
"This is absolutely horrifying," stated Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office. She described the images from the site as the "essence of destruction and despair," capturing the profound cruelty of the ongoing regional tensions.
Rescue teams on the ground described a scene of overwhelming carnage. Pirhossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, confirmed the death toll, calling the incident "a brutal and sad event, unprecedented in history."
Verification Challenges
Establishing an independent account remains difficult. Iran continues to restrict international journalists and maintains a widespread internet blackout, making external verification nearly impossible.
Officials speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity cautioned that the investigation is ongoing. They noted that new evidence could still emerge to identify a different party responsible for the tragedy.
Under international humanitarian law, the deliberate targeting of schools, hospitals, or other civilian infrastructure is classified as a war crime.
