Councilors approved Dumitru Vartic’s resignation as vice president of Hâncești district

On Friday, March 13, the Hâncești District Council officially accepted the resignation of Vice President Dumitru Vartic, ending his term early following a vote by the councilors. This decision was made in response to Vartic's resignation request submitted on March 9, amid an ongoing investigation into the death of his wife, Ludmila Vartic, which is currently being investigated by law enforcement.

The decision to terminate the mandate of the vice-president of the Hâncești district, Dumitru Vartic, through his resignation was made during an extraordinary meeting of the District Council. The decision received the support of 28 out of 29 councilors present.

The Hâncești District Council announced that the decisions will be published on the institution's official website and in the State Register of Local Acts, in accordance with legal requirements.

Dumitru Vartic submitted his resignation from the vice-presidency on March 9, following a District Council meeting during which he was asked to step down. Additionally, the Action and Solidarity Party announced his expulsion.

This resignation comes amid an investigation into the death of his wife, Ludmila Vartic, who died on March 3 after reportedly falling from the 11th floor of an apartment building in Chisinau. Law enforcement has opened two criminal cases regarding the incident—one in Chisinau, where the tragedy happened, and another in Hâncești, to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Viorel Cernăuțeanu, head of the General Inspectorate of Police, stated that investigators are conducting several actions, including interviews and forensic examinations, to clarify the details of the case.

Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the Minister of Internal Affairs, indicated that Vartic was questioned by law enforcement and is currently considered a suspect in the investigation. Authorities continue to work on establishing all the facts surrounding this tragedy. Investigators noted that no complaints from the victim had been recorded prior to 2019.
