Moldova’s Energy Minister, Dorin Junghietu, joined European counterparts in Brussels today to discuss the revision of the Trans-European Energy Infrastructure (TEN-E) regulations. The high-level meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications, and Energy Council (TTE) focuses on streamlining permit procedures and enhancing regional security.

Minister Junghietu, alongside Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, addressed a dedicated session on bolstering energy resilience. The discussions centered on the strategic necessity of fully connecting the Eastern Partnership nations to the European power grid to ensure long-term stability.

Integration and market reforms

During the session, Junghietu outlined Chisinau’s technical progress in aligning with the European single market. He emphasized that Moldova is moving beyond emergency measures toward structural synchronization with EU energy standards and regional cooperation frameworks.

The meeting was inaugurated by Michael Damianos, Cyprus’s Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, representing the Council Presidency. EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, provided an update on the European executive's affordable energy action plan.

Addressing energy costs

Ministers reviewed the progress of measures launched a year ago to mitigate price volatility. The delegation analyzed national strategies aimed at reducing energy costs for households and industrial consumers while maintaining the momentum of the green transition.

Strategic bilateral diplomacy

On the margins of the Council, Minister Junghietu held a series of high-level meetings to secure technical and political support. These included talks with Greece’s Stavros Papastavrou, Poland’s Wojciech Wrochna, and Gert Jan Koopman, the EU’s Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations.

Junghietu also met with Minister Michael Damianos to discuss the Presidency’s priorities. These diplomatic efforts reflect the EU’s broader commitment to accelerating clean energy transitions within its Eastern neighborhood.
