Gălești village upgrades local infrastructure

The village of Gălești in Moldova's Strășeni district is undergoing a major transformation, benefiting its 2,800 residents. Three government-funded local development projects are upgrading educational facilities, street lighting, and road networks.

Kindergarten energy efficiency
The "Voinicel" kindergarten recently completed a major renovation under the second edition of the "European Village" program. Conducted between March and December 2025, the project delivered exterior insulation, landscaping, new fencing, and courtyard paving.
Built in 1984, the facility previously suffered from severe energy inefficiency, where children endured freezing indoor temperatures during winter. The recent thermal upgrades have successfully cut maintenance costs by over 30%.
The renovation cost exceeded €177,650 (approx. 3,482,000 MDL). The government provided €151,000 via the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, supplemented by €26,600 in local contributions. The investment directly benefits 72 children and 26 staff members.
Street lighting and road expansion
A second project, funded by the "European Village Express" program, installed 176 LED streetlights throughout the community. This €12,200 government initiative pushed Gălești's public lighting coverage to a full 100%.
Following the installation, authorities reported a noticeable drop in nighttime traffic accidents and local crime.
Meanwhile, a third ongoing project, "Europe is Close", focuses on vital rural connectivity. Workers are rehabilitating a 700-meter road segment linking Gălești to the L416 Bucovăț–Zubrești route, complete with new curbs, sidewalks, and four restored culverts.
This infrastructure project received €318,300 in state funding and €35,400 in local backing. The new road connects key community hubs, including the kindergarten, school, medical center, town hall, and local pharmacy.

Sustainable rural development
Mayor Nicolae Budu emphasized the long-term impact of these infrastructure upgrades. "Every investment in our community is an important step toward a better future for our children, families, and the entire locality," he stated.
He noted that the projects reflect a shared commitment between central and local authorities to improve living standards. These targeted investments aim to ensure sustainable rural development across the country.
