Drone attack on Russia's Nizhnekamsk kills 13, hits industrial sites
A massive morning drone attack on Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, killed at least 13 people—including a child—and injured 39 others on August 10, according to Russian officials.
The strike targeted key industrial facilities in the region, focusing on one of Russia’s largest petrochemical operations.
Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev confirmed the casualties, stating that Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov declared a day of mourning across the republic.
Petrochemical Hub under fire
Visual evidence analyzed by independent outlet Astra indicates that the primary target was the Nizhnekamskneftehim (NKNH) industrial complex.
Part of SIBUR’s Volga cluster, the facility is a major manufacturer of synthetic rubber.
The Nizhnekamsk industrial zone also houses the Tatneft oil refinery and the TAIF-NK refining complex, both of which faced drone attacks in June and July.
NKNH previously sustained a drone strike in March, which left one dead and 50 injured.
Widespread drone activity reported
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 456 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions and occupied Crimea.
Officials reported interceptions over Tatarstan as well as the Moscow, Belgorod, Voronezh, Rostov, and Kaluga regions.
Local authorities in Belgorod reported one civilian death after a drone struck a private home in Novaya Tavolzhanka.
In Rostov, Governor Yuri Slyusar stated over 70 drones were downed across Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and seven surrounding districts, reporting no ground casualties.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported 13 drones shot down near the capital, while Kaluga officials confirmed 16 interceptions with no damages recorded.
