Foreigners trained for mass unrest arrested in Moldova

Police detained two foreign nationals who were posting flyers with content inciting social, inter-ethnic, and religious hatred in public places in the capital on Friday afternoon.
The Presidential Administration stated that the names of President Maia Sandu and the Metropolis of Bessarabia were "abusively and falsely used" on the flyers. During subsequent interrogations, one of the perpetrators, a Russian speaker, admitted that he had participated in training camps organized last year in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he was taught how to instigate mass unrest.
The President's spokesperson, Igor Zaharov, said the messages disseminated by the perpetrators "have no connection to the Presidency or the Metropolis of Bessarabia and are part of a clear attempt to manipulate public opinion."
He also emphasized that the head of state "recently warned that the instrumentalization of religion is one of the methods the Kremlin will use to create divisions in society, and citizens must be vigilant and not fall for the traps of these provocations."
Maia Sandu, following a meeting of the Supreme Security Council: Russia is planning to rig the autumn elections using 100 million euros from cryptocurrencies and paid protests.
The two young men were taken to the Police Inspectorate for questioning. According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the young men, aged 22 and 28, who are Russian speakers, entered the Republic of Moldova on Friday morning, August 8.
They were detained on suspicion of preparing for mass unrest in the Republic of Moldova.
"One of them admitted during interrogations that he had participated in training camps on mass unrest, organized in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, during the previous electoral period and referendum, which law enforcement officers announced at the time," the IGP states.
Furthermore, he "identified several people who participated in the same training sessions, including instructors, and one of the men identified is also wanted for preparing mass unrest in our country," the Police report.
In addition to the two detainees, the Police, in collaboration with the Information and Security Service and under the procedural coordination of the prosecutor's office, are also investigating other individuals involved in similar actions, the IGP further specifies.
