Tax Office collected 60 million lei in rental property taxes

During the first eight months of the year, individuals renting out residential spaces contributed 60 million lei in taxes. According to the State Tax Service, this represents a 26.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

From January to August, a total of 1,205 individuals voluntarily reported to the Tax Office that they were renting out their homes. During the same period, the tax authorities assessed additional late payments against 144 individuals, totalling approximately 340,000 lei.

In the first eight months of the year, over 20,000 rental contracts for residential properties and other real estate owned by individuals were registered. This represents an 18.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The State Tax Service reminds individuals who do not engage in entrepreneurial activities and who rent out real estate to other individuals—using platforms such as Booking, Airbnb, and others—of their obligation to fulfil tax responsibilities related to the income earned.

In the Republic of Moldova, individuals are permitted to rent out their real estate. However, they must sign a contract with the tenant and register it with the tax authorities. The property owner is required to pay a tax of 7% on the income received.

We remind you that if the rental contract is not registered within seven days of being signed, penalties and late fees may be imposed.
